Evaluation of whole project

In this blog post I will be talking about everything that went well and what didn't go as well in the project;
Location permission - For this project we was required to get permission to film in the location we wanted to film in, we wanted to film in Botany Bay but we hadn't decided the location until about a week in advance so we didn't have time to get the permissions that we needed too but if we did ask for permission and they said no then we would've had a problem as they could've sent someone down there to make sure that we didn't film there which would've caused a big problem as we wouldn't have been able to film there and then we wouldn't have much time to film the music video. But luckily we had no interruptions and the shoot went excellently. I'm very proud of how me and Callie worked on the shoot, I believe that Tom and his friends got a positive impression from both of us.
Storyboard - For our video projects we are asked to create a storyboard of what we will shoot on the day but we didn't get a chance to do this completely as Tom had an idea for the video and he was writing a script/schedule of what he wanted us to film for the video (As shown on the client page) We started to create a storyboard but didn't get very far as we were running out of time to get other, more important work done. The video plan was simple to understand and we didn't really need a storyboard to show us exactly what to film.
Filming - On the day of the shoot the filming went really well, we got all of the videos and photos before 2:00pm which was our cut off time as some of the actors had to leave. The filming went smoothly and we didn't run in to any large problems. There were only a few slight problems with the acting but we just did another take until we got it perfect or as close to. The camera had a few slight issues as we couldn't film the last section of the video with manual focus as I was different distances away from the subjects in the same shot. The first shot was in manual focus as I stayed the same distance away from the subject the whole time but unfortunately I couldn't do this for the final shot.

At 2:59 the camera goes out of focus a lot but luckily the lens managed to adjust itself in a few seconds and I didn't have to stop the scene to adjust the camera. There were a few more instances where the camera went slightly out of focus but we are not professionals and we are still learning about filming and cameras. But this shoot was very good experience for us as we got to see what it is like to work with a client. I learnt a lot from this project and this experience will help me in the future with other client work. The rest of the filming on the day went really well. It could've gone better if I had more professional equipment such as a Dji Ronin and a Sony FS5 so I can have perfectly smooth video and with a remote to control the focus of the camera without having to adjust the lens on the camera. But that is a lot of money and unfortunately I do not have that much money to spend
Location changes - Another reason we couldn't apply for filming permission is because we didn't have a definite answer for where we were filming. Tom was deciding on where he wanted the video to be and we went through a few locations before we got to Botany Bay. The first location was Camber Sands but Tom told us that last time he went it was too windy and there was sand flying everywhere so we decided to film elsewhere, then it was Joss Bay but it was a pretty boring beach and then we finally got to Botany Bay, a very beautiful beach with incredible white cliffs and some stacks out in the sea.

We only found out that we was filming at Botany Bay a week or so ahead of the actual filming day. This would've been a big problem if we were filming a big production video but lucking as it was a little music video then it was okay to adjust the location a few times with little to no warning.
Research - We were also asked to research our client to see their previous work and to see what type of person they are. We had a small problem with this because Tom didn't have much information about himself on his profile so we could find out where he studied or what he studied. We done as much research as we could and found out as much as we could. We learnt that he done shows in a lot of different events. It's good to know that he can promote himself and get his work out there and hopefully our video will help to promote him even more. We looked at his previous work and he had no proper music videos and only some studio recorded videos. We knew this was a good opportunity to make him an awesome music video for one of his new songs.
Target audience - For this project we determined that the target audience was mainly people aged between 16-24, we come to this conclusion as Tom is around 23 years old and he said that at a lot of his gigs people are mainly his kind of age and there are also some teenagers. We also done some research into the age range of people who watched the Passenger video and by looking at a lot of the accounts that had commented on the video we came to the conclusion that this was the target audience. This is also the target audience as the video would be posted on YouTube and Social media pages so we knew that the younger generation would be more likely to watch the video so we aimed it at this age range. We made the video suitable for this age range by creating a video that had a very nice aesthetic which is what many younger people like in music videos. The backdrop of Botany Bay worked really well and made a beautiful looking video. Even though this video is aimed at 16-24 year old I showed my grandparents who are 70+ years old the video and they really enjoyed it as well. They liked the visuals and the backdrop in the video. I feel like this video worked really well for the determined target audience.
Photos - We was also asked to do some photographs for the client. We took our photos on the beach as we thought that was a good location for some photographs. After looking at photos by the other groups I have realised how good photos in the studio can look but all of the studio photos look the same and our pictures stand out as they aren't in the studio. I feel like our photos came out very well and they look very professional. With a bit of touch-up in PhotoShop they will look great. The final images look really good (As seen in the Client Photos blog) we didn't add a graphic of his name or album/song name as he was getting a graphic designer to create a font and graphic for him but unfortunately the designer couldn't get the font and graphic through in time so we had to leave it out for him to add later.
Feedback - Below is the feedback from Tom (Client) about the overall project. Tom gave me a 10/10 for my work and communication with him. I am very happy that Tom gave me a 10/10 as I believe that I worked very hard to be professional whilst communicating and filming with him. Although the shoot didn't last too long I feel that I presented myself well and worked hard to make sure that his vision became a reality. We all worked as a team on the shoot day and we made the video work. Tom is very pleased with the video and he has been advertising it all week on his Instagram and Facebook pages.

Below is feedback from my lecturer (Ross) about my presentation. I wasn't very confident in front of the mass of people because I was on my own as neither of my teammates were there to help me present. Ross says that we had good pictures but no explanation, I believe that we did have good pictures and I agree that there wasn't an explanation but I am not a very confident person and I wasn't sure what to say in front of all of the students and clients. He goes on to say that there was a hissing sound when I played the video, this was an issue with the connection between the computer and the projector as there is no hissing in the original video. Ross also commented on the focus issues that I have discussed above, I am also annoyed about the focus but there wasn't much I could do on the day with the equipment I had. He goes on to say about the exposure being too high and as much as I agree with ross with every other point he has made in this peer assessment I disagree with this one, I made the video look like that with colour grading, I think that it looks very good and you don't loose any of the scene to the colour.

Below is a peer assessment from Callie (Member of the group). Callie basically says that I worked well and got everything done that needed to be done. She said that I need to let others get more involved in the production of the video but to defend myself it was all of my equipment that is worth a lot of money and I doubt that Callie would've been able to hold the camera setup as it was very heavy and even I was struggling. Callie gave me a "Strong 9/10", I think this is a fair rating

I feel that this project went well and others believe that I done well in the project.
