In this blog post I will be analysing some showreels from professional videographers.

The first showreel I will be analysing is by GinogMedia, I know of Adam (GinogMedia) because he started as a filmer in the scooter community. He has progressed very far from there and now works on very high quality video shoots and films.

This video was made in 2016 so it is a bit outdated but it was a very good video when I first watched it but now it doesn't seem as good. I like Adam's style as he doesn't hide his roots and where he came from. A lot of people hide their roots as they aren't proud of what they did in the past but Adam is proud to show what helped him get to where he is today. Adam uses a range of different shots from multiple videos he has filmed over the year. He puts the clips in a good order that show progression of his filming and editing skills, this is a good way to show that his knowledge of the media industry has improved. The strengths of this video are that he shows a range of different shoots he has been on. For example, there are some shots of a Lamborghini driving about which shows he knows how to film automotive videos. I think it is a good idea to try and include a range of different videos I have filmed to give the viewer a good idea of what I can film. The weaknesses of this video are that although he has shown a range of different shoots the video is overpopulated with skatepark clips, I know that I said it was good to show your roots but I feel as if that is too much.

The next video is by a cinematographer called Richard Oakes;

This is a very high quality video in 4K, the fact that the video has been filmed and uploaded in 4K shows that Richard is a very professional cinematographer as 4K is a lot to work with as you must have a 4K camera which is very expensive. A computer that can handle 4K video and a very strong network to be able to upload the video. This gives me the impression that Richard has been doing cinematography for a while as it would be difficult to get all of these things when you start being a cinematographer. I am a big fan of the very high quality and I hope to be able to film and produce in such high quality one day. The only thing that I don't like about this showreel is that there isn't much diversity. I feel like a lot of the clips were very similar and there is not enough difference between clips.

The final showreel I will be analysing is by Will Price;

Again this is a very high quality video and I really like this video. Unlike the previous video it has been recorded in 1080p but the video is still at a very good quality. In the description he states that the video was recorded on a 4K camera but he may have chosen not to upload it in 4K as many people do not have the internet connection to watch 4K videos smoothly. This is the best showreel of the three. Even though it is not uploaded in 4K there is so much moe diversity and content than the other two and I think that is more important than uploading it in a very high quality resolution.

Showreels are very helpful as they are short videos that show lots of your work, I have created a showreel and I am going to take it with me to my university interview. I believe that it will show the interviewer that I have the skills required to get on the course. I feel as if a showreel is more important than taking a cv to a job in the media industry as showing your physical skills is more important than showing what grades you have. I have a large diversity of different videos that I have made in my showreel, I think that it is important to show the whole range of what you can do as it lets the viewer know that you have a large range of camera skills and traits.
